Tedeschi Trucks Band - Beacon Theatre, New York
Wow... I saw Leon Russell in the late 60s with Joe Cocker. On Loge level, sound was too loud: unable to hear more than 3 words on each song Leon sang, and his organ/piano drowned out all the other instruments so it was like trying to hear a superior band over a waterfall! Two best songs of opening act: “Walking Blues” solo by Leon’s guitarist, followed by Leon’s solo (you could actually hear their voices and instruments.) Leon Russell A+; Sound Production C- Sorry Leon… you deserved better. After a nice break, we're getting down to business: Oh, Oh, Oh for The Growlers, Trucks and company! The atmosphere became highly charged: at times it was hard to tell if those on stage or in the audience were having a better time! Much better sound: each instrument and individual was able to be heard and appreciated. Karen credited Leon for his strong influence on the creation of their band. Together they performed some of his most popular early songs. It was good to hear his voice again, and recognizable piano licks. All in all, a fantastic band as individual artists and as a group: loved the camaraderie as well as the solos, variety of music, vocals and instruments. Had only seen a few of these performers on television (Eric’s Crossroads festival) so it was a real treat to experience the whole band live in concert. I look forward to seeing them again.
